“Happy Thanksgiving Y&S Students,
This newsletter, I wanted to lean into the Spread part of Yield & Spread. This course was designed to teach you all how to invest and build wealth, and learn how to take care of yourselves… but it was also designed to give back.
As I look back on 2021, I’m grateful to say that I have taught nearly 150 students, and together we have raised $9,555 for The Life You Can Save! Using TLYCS’s Impact Calculator, we can get a real sense for the good we have done as a community. Our $9,555 translates to:
4777 bednets to protect those living in malaria-stricken areas. This translates to 2 lives saved, according to GiveWell (Against Malaria Foundation)
Or, 13 complete surgeries to safely repair a woman's obstetric fistula, and rehabilitation services (Fistula Foundation)
Or, 382 months of basic income to a recipient (GiveDirectly's Universal Basic Income initiative)
In the spirit of upcoming Giving Tuesday, I encourage you to consider donating to highly effective organizations, where there is proven research that your dollar will go the farthest it can go to help save a human life. (PS if you want to learn more about highly effective giving this book a great start)
Since I am always in the spirit of optimization, even when giving, I encourage you to check out the following resources on how to donate and minimize your tax impact:
Your guide to charitable giving and taxes (My friend Aaron Hamlin discusses tax deductions, giving through your IRA, and tax-loss harvesting, and more)
Make use of a Donor Advised Fund through Vanguard, Fidelity, or Charles Schwab
Boost your Wallet. Wellbeing. World.
